FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Tech Line Clubs Approved by USGA?

Samples of every model we offer have been submitted to USGA. They have authorized us to state that our putters and all BIGFACE 1 models "Conform with USGA Rules." Click here to go to the official list of non-comforming clubs as compiled by the USGA.

What is Tech Line's full product line?

At present, we offer 3 versions of BIFGACE 1 drivers for center hit distances (CHD) of CHD 150-230, CHD 220-270, and CHD 260-300. We also offer a line of excellent putters, the SCUFF RAIL putter line. In the longer term, we plan several choices of maximum distance woods for use on fairways, each customized for a range of CHD.

What Does Optimum Face Curvature Mean?

Drivers normally have a toe-heel face curvature called "bulge" and usually have an up-down curvature called "roll". These tend to bring the flight of the ball back toward the intended target for ball-club impacts which are off-center, not at the face center. Our face curvature is much more sophisticated. Our computer model allows us to calculate the best face curvature for each particular head design. It finds that the best shape is rather different from the simple bulge and roll. Typically, there is even a area of the face which is not curved at all. The new surface shape gives less scatter of stop points.

What Does Optimum Face Outline Shape Mean?

Our measurements of the scatter of hits on the face of a club shows that hits scatter in an elliptically shaped distribution. An optimum face outline shape is elliptical and tilted up at the toe to approximately match the hit pattern. This means that fewer of the more widely scattered hits are off the face or partly off the face (POF hits).

Why is Large Inertia so Important?

Off-center hits cause the head to turn during the impact, and this causes curvature of the flight of the ball and reduces its distance. Larger moments of inertia substantially reduce these ill effects. While the moment of inertia about a vertical axis tends to be the most important and certainly is the most talked about industry, other inertia terms are often also important. A full description requires 6 inertia terms.

Can a Golfer Really Tell Which Club Is Best?

Our research and reports of users of BIGFACE 1 drivers indicates that a golfer can readily perceive the difference. The most common observation is "more hits in the fairway" and resulting lower score.

Our research concludes it is very difficult or nearly impossible to observe performance differences among putters. We feel this conclusion is confirmed by the number and variety of putters being used. One or a few designs have not captured significant share and design lose their "hot" image as quickly as they gained it.

For putters, personal preferences are a factor and probably the most important one. For many club designs, small differences can only be noticed after much practice with each club being compared.
