Two aerospace engineers with advanced degrees have been deeply involved in golf club research and development at Tech Line Corp for more than 10 years. The research is based on numerous measurements of golfer errors, and a markedly advanced, computerized model of the club-ball impact and the ensuing flight and bounce and roll. The model allows optimizing club design features for minimum scatter and maximum distance. Improvements in accuracy and distance from the resulting club designs is sufficient to be noticed by golfers. The underlying reasons are:
Patents are issued and pending on the basic improvements in these products.
The BIGFACE 1 drivers are the result of this research effort and are available at this time. The benefits of these designs are attested to by the most common, golfer comment: "longer drives with more shots on the fairway". The models are designated by the distance range for which they have been optimized. One is designed for golfers whose good drives, what we call Center Hit Distance, is in the range of 150 and 230 yards, a second for CHD's of 220 to 270 yards, and the third for CHD's of 260 to 300 yards. The model stock numbers are 150-230 CHD, 220-270 CHD, and 260-300 CHD respectively.
The SCUFF RAIL putters resulted from our initial work. Their designs resulted from our effort to maximize performance, i.e., minimize putts to hole out, based on only those putting errors influenced by putter design. In this respect, they are excellent putters. However, our subsequent research allowing us to consider all putting errors and their effect on putts to hole out has led us to a surprising conclusion: putting performance differences between modern putter designs is negligible. This will be the subject for a future article.
We have also written two very unusual books reporting on the experimental and theoretical research carried out over the last 10 years. Our first book is a more technically oriented presentation for the more technical golfer, researchers and club designers. Our second book is directed to all golfers as it explains in common language the basic ways to play better golf with the swing you have. There is also a wealth of practical information on effects of wind, ball position, the turf, and the nature of shots.
